Reading

Psalm 146:1–10 (ESV) 1 Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord, O my soul! 2  I will praise the Lord as long as I live; I will sing praises to my God while I have my being. 3  Put not your trust in princes, in a son of man, in whom there is no salvation. 4  When his breath departs, he returns to the earth; on that very day his plans perish. 5  Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord his God, 6  who made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, who keeps faith forever; 7  who executes justice for the oppressed, who gives food to the hungry. The Lord sets the prisoners free; 8  the Lord opens the eyes of the blind. The Lord lifts up those who are bowed down; the Lord loves the righteous. 9  The Lord watches over the sojourners; he upholds the widow and the fatherless, but the way of the wicked he brings to ruin. 10  The Lord will reign forever, your God, O Zion, to all generations. Praise the Lord!

Introduction

Psalm 146:3–6 (ESV) 3  Put not your trust in princes, in a son of man, in whom there is no salvation. 4  When his breath departs, he returns to the earth; on that very day his plans perish. 5  Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord his God, 6  who made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, who keeps faith forever;

Psalm 146:6 (NLT) He made heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them. He keeps every promise forever.

Psalm 146:10 (ESV) The Lord will reign forever, your God, O Zion, to all generations. Praise the Lord!

Jesus Reigns

Philippians 3:20–21 (NLT) 20 But we are citizens of heaven, where the Lord Jesus Christ lives. And we are eagerly waiting for him to return as our Savior. 21 He will take our weak mortal bodies and change them into glorious bodies like his own, using the same power with which he will bring everything under his control.

1 Peter 2:13-17 (ESV) Be subject for the Lord’s sake to every human institution, whether it be to the emperor as supreme, or to governors as sent by him to punish those who do evil and to praise those who do good. For this is the will of God, that by doing good you should put to silence the ignorance of foolish people. Live as people who are free, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but living as servants of God. Honor everyone. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the emperor.

Revelation 11:15–16 (ESV) 15 Then the seventh angel blew his trumpet, and there were loud voices in heaven, saying, “The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he shall reign forever and ever.” 16 And the twenty-four elders who sit on their thrones before God fell on their faces and worshiped God,

Revelation 11:17–18 (NLT) 17 And they said, “We give thanks to you, Lord God, the Almighty, the one who is and who always was, for now you have assumed your great power and have begun to reign. 18 The nations were filled with wrath, but now the time of your wrath has come. It is time to judge the dead and reward your servants the prophets, as well as your holy people, and all who fear your name, from the least to the greatest. It is time to destroy all who have caused destruction on the earth.”

Habakkuk 2:12–14 (NLT) 12 “What sorrow awaits you who build cities with money gained through murder and corruption! 13 Has not the Lord of Heaven’s Armies promised that the wealth of nations will turn to ashes? They work so hard, but all in vain! 14 For as the waters fill the sea, the earth will be filled with an awareness of the glory of the Lord.

Revelation 21:22–27 (ESV) 22 And I saw no temple in the city, for its temple is the Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb. 23 And the city has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and its lamp is the Lamb. 24 By its light will the nations walk, and the kings of the earth will bring their glory into it, 25 and its gates will never be shut by day—and there will be no night there. 26 They will bring into it the glory and the honor of the nations. 27 But nothing unclean will ever enter it, nor anyone who does what is detestable or false, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s book of life.

Revelation 22:1–5 (ESV) 1 Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, bright as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb 2 through the middle of the street of the city; also, on either side of the river, the tree of life with its twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit each month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. 3 No longer will there be anything accursed, but the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and his servants will worship him. 4 They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. 5 And night will be no more. They will need no light of lamp or sun, for the Lord God will be their light, and they will reign forever and ever.

Conclusion

Isaiah 11:9 (ESV) They shall not hurt or destroy in all my holy mountain; for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.

Isaiah 11:9-10 (NLT) Nothing will hurt or destroy in all my holy mountain, for as the waters fill the sea, so the earth will be filled with people who know the Lord. In that day the heir to David’s throne will be a banner of salvation to all the world. The nations will rally to him, and the land where he lives will be a glorious place.
